As part of the Zurich Design Weeks, Ukrainian artist Mykola Kabluka brought the historic Enge Station to life with his inspiring light installation, “Soul.” This dazzling piece transformed the once overlooked ticket office into a dynamic and magical space. With soft colors and flowy light shapes, “Soul” creates a lively and interactive environment, making it not just a visual feast, but a deep artistic commentary on the importance of preserving historical architecture.
What makes Soul truly unique is the technique used. The author of the work, Mykola Kabluka and his team made custom glass filters, caustic lasers and a complex movement mechanism controlled by specially developed software. These elements work together to create an immersive experience, engaging both the visitors and the space they're in, while highlighting architectural spaces that deserve restoration or renewed attention.
More than just a stunning art installation, Soul is a fusion of art and social activism. It forms a creative dialogue between Kyiv and Zurich, symbolizing the connection between culture, design, and heritage. By showcasing forgotten or underappreciated spaces, Kabluka’s work encourages us to rethink the familiar and engage with our surroundings in new ways.
