Lighting is one of the most crucial elements in architectural design. The use of natural light, reflections on surfaces, and the interplay of shadows influences how architecture communicates with us. This interplay is so powerful that it can be considered a language—one that architects employ to evoke emotions within a space.
"It could be said that lighting is a form of language that architects can use to communicate emotions in the spaces and structures they design. As such, shadow plays as much a role in influencing the feel of a space as light. The harmony between light and shadow allows architects and designers to create spaces with depth and texture, creating different moods for different purposes."
The Home of Shadows Competition challenges designers to create a home concept for a couple under a unique constraint: no artificial light can be used within the home. This is to encourage participants to push their creativity, focusing on natural light to shape their architectural vision. The jury will be looking for proposals that explore how natural light can guide architectural decisions, revealing how daylight impacts spatial dynamics and aesthetics.
If this all sounds interesting to you, unleash your creativity and dive into the exploration of light and shadow in the Home of Shadows!
